Rosie Galligan: The Magical Support to the Red Roses at the Women’s Rugby World Cup
English player Rosie Galligan has expressed her amazement at the support received by the team during the early stages of the Women’s Rugby World Cup. The “Red Roses” have achieved convincing victories against the United States and Samoa, in front of a large audience in Sunderland and Northampton, respectively, marking a promising start to the tournament. The third and final group stage match against Australia in Brighton is also close to selling out, and Galligan has confessed that he has never experienced such enthusiasm.
Furthermore, he highlighted the difference between playing a tournament at home, compared to the experience three years ago in New Zealand. Galligan also mentioned the difficulty of getting extra tickets for his family, as England prepares to face the Wallaroos. Galligan’s personal story is a source of inspiration.“This has been magical. Sunderland, for example, with the excited fans walking towards the stadium, the fireworks as they got off the bus, I really felt something I had never experienced before”.

“Being able to say I had meningitis, I broke my ankle, I was out for a year trying to recover and I did it… and then I’ve been involved in the England team ever since. That for me was a great achievement.” Not only did I get physically stronger from those major lows, but I also became a completely different person mentally. So it’s about taking things easy. The positive aspects are always the things you remember, but knowing that you overcame some really dark moments is also very important to remember.“We all have ups and downs, and life is a rollercoaster both on and off the field,” Galligan stated.
