England secured their eleventh consecutive victory in a hard-fought match against Argentina, with Max Ojomoh as a key figure in the 27-23 victory at the Allianz Stadium. The English team came close to achieving their first autumn sweep since 2021, but the tenacity of the Pumas, who remembered their impressive comeback against Scotland, maintained the uncertainty until the last moment. Despite the initial 17-0 lead in the first 25 minutes, tension gripped Twickenham. However, Steve Borthwick’s team found a way to secure the victory, following the tone of the season. In the 65th minute, Henry Slade scored a crucial try, thanks to the assistance of Ojomoh, the player of the match. Ojomoh, who had already created another opportunity for Immanuel Feyi-Waboso and scored his own try, proved to be fundamental.

The aerial game was an important factor, and although England dominated in the first half thanks to the kicks of Ben Spencer and George Ford, the dynamic changed after the break. Freddie Steward shone in the aerial plays, and Maro Itoje had an outstanding performance. Despite leading 27-16, the home team couldn’t relax, as Rodrigo Isgro’s try in the 80th minute kept the suspense until the end. Argentina was 10 meters from the try line, but lost the line-out, and Ben Earl recovered the ball, avoiding his team’s defeat, which hadn’t lost since February. The excitement continued as a drop-goal from George Ford and a try by Ojomoh, made possible by Feyi-Waboso’s challenge, propelled England to a 10-0 lead in the first 10 minutes. The English defense held off the Pumas’ attack, and a penalty by Santiago Carreras was rejected by the post, with Itoje demonstrating his worth. England’s scrum was already dominant and, after the signaling of a penalty by referee Pierre Brousset, Ford passed the ball to Ojomoh, whose precise pass found Feyi-Waboso for a classy try. A tackle by Spencer stopped an Argentinian attack, but the visitors showed their ability to create opportunities. Only a pass to Ford’s head prevented them from scoring. The opening Tomás Albornoz scored a long-distance penalty, and England would have extended their lead if Luke Cowan-Dickie had grounded the ball correctly after a line-out. This error was costly, as Argentina scored five minutes after the start of the second half, taking advantage of the home defense, with Justo Piccardo easily scoring.

England was surpassed, and the Pumas took the initiative, consolidated with another penalty by Albornoz.

Tom Curry, Henry Pollock, Will Stuart and Fin Baxter came off the bench hoping to inspire a comeback, but Steward caught the eye with two stunning aerial catches. The number of penalties against England increased, and Carreras added three more points. In the 66th minute, Ojomoh ran strongly after a line-out and passed the ball to Slade, who scored. Ford’s penalty seemed to seal the victory, but Isgro starred in an exciting finish that the Pumas couldn’t capitalize on.
