Doris, Ireland captain, out for 6 months with injury; misses tests and Lions

Caelan Doris, captain of Ireland, could miss the November matches.

Ireland captain Caelan Doris will miss up to six months of action after undergoing shoulder surgery, Leinster club reported.

The injury occurred during Leinster’s defeat in the European Rugby Champions Cup semi-final against Northampton Saints earlier this month.

Doris, who was competing for the British & Irish Lions captaincy with Maro Itoje, was excluded from Andy Farrell’s 38-player squad that will travel to Australia.

“Caelan Doris underwent a procedure last Friday for a shoulder injury that will keep him out of action for between four and six months,” Leinster said in a statement.

Doris will miss Ireland’s matches against Georgia and Portugal in July and is doubtful for the November matches against New Zealand, Japan, Australia and South Africa.
