Lood de Jager Joins the Springboks for Crucial Argentina Clash
South Africa has called up second-row Lood de Jager for the final Rugby Championship match against Argentina in London. The decision was made after the absence of Franco Mostert, who was unable to travel due to a family matter. De Jager, who missed last Saturday’s match against Los Pumas in Durban due to an injury, has recovered and is ready to travel to Twickenham. There he will take over Mostert’s position. After traveling on Sunday night, the Boks returned to training. Erasmus indicated that the team did not suffer negative effects from the trip. “The trip to London was good, and being a night flight, the players rested well on the plane and look fresh and ready to get back into action. Fortunately, the time zone is similar to that of South Africa, so the players can get back into action without any problems. Obviously, we will manage them carefully this week to make sure we get the best out of them on the field on Saturday,” explained Erasmus. Erasmus added: “This is a crucial match, and we have no doubt that Argentina will come out with everything to finish their campaign in the best way, but, at the same time, we have the opportunity to win the competition for the second consecutive year for the first time in history, so we have all the motivation we need this week.” South Africa currently leads the rankings with one point ahead of the All Blacks, who are in second place with 14 points. The Wallabies are in third place with 11 points and Argentina in last place with nine points.“We all feel deeply for Franco and wish him strength during this difficult time, and we will support him as best we can. Fortunately, Lood has recovered from his injury, and his experience and leadership will be valuable in such an important week for the team,” commented Rassie Erasmus, Springboks coach.
