Curry, accused of "thug" by Contepomi after Mallia's injury in England vs Argentina
Argentina coach Felipe Contepomi expressed his discontent with English player Tom Curry, after a match played at Twickenham. Contepomi accused Curry of using inappropriate language and pushing him after the match, following an incident involving Juan Cruz Mallia. Tension rose in the 75th minute when Mallia suffered an injury after a tackle by Curry. Contepomi described the action as “reckless” and late, which resulted in a penalty for Curry. After the match, tempers flared. Contepomi reported that Curry said “f— off” to him in the tunnel and pushed him in the chest.

He was there and he approached wanting to greet one of our coaches, but we said no because we were upset. It was reckless and he broke our player’s knee.

Contepomi added that, in his opinion, Curry should have shown respect and humility, instead of acting that way.

England coach Steve Borthwick said he did not witness the incident. On the other hand, Maro Itoje commented that emotions are usually running high after the matches, but that there is great respect between both teams. Contepomi mentioned that the severity of Mallia’s injury has not yet been confirmed, but he suspects it could be an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
