Curry, accused of being a “thug” by Contepomi after injury to Mallia in England vs Argentina

Argentina coach Felipe Contepomi has called England player Tom Curry a “thug” after the tense match at Twickenham, where Argentina fell 27-23. Contepomi expressed his frustration after a play in the 75th minute that resulted in Juan Cruz Mallia’s injury, following a tackle by Curry. The Argentinian coach considered Curry’s action as “reckless” and late, which resulted in a penalty. The tension moved to the tunnel after the match, where Contepomi alleged that Curry insulted and pushed him.

He was there and he approached wanting to greet one of our coaches, but we said no because we were upset. It was reckless and he broke our player’s knee.

Contepomi added that he expected an apology from Curry, but instead, he received insults and a shove. England coach Steve Borthwick said he did not witness the incident, but defended Curry’s integrity. Maro Itoje, for his part, downplayed the situation, attributing it to the emotions of the moment.
Contepomi mentioned that Mallia’s injury could be an anterior cruciate ligament tear, although more tests are needed.
