Argentina coach Felipe Contepomi has called England flanker Tom Curry a “bully” after the tense encounter at Twickenham. Contepomi accused Curry of insulting and pushing him in the tunnel after the match.
The controversy arose after Argentine fullback Juan Cruz Mallia suffered an injury in the 75th minute, the result of a tackle by Curry during England’s 27-23 victory.
Contepomi considered the tackle to be “reckless” and late, which resulted in a penalty against Curry. After the match, tempers flared, with Curry at the center of the controversy.
According to Contepomi, Curry insulted and pushed him in the tunnel. The Argentinian coach recounted that Curry said “f- off” and pushed him in the chest.
He was there and he approached and wanted to greet one of our coaches, but we said no because we were upset. It was reckless and he broke our player’s knee,” Contepomi said.

Contepomi expressed his disappointment at Curry’s lack of respect after Mallia’s injury. The coach suggested that Curry could be a “thug” if that’s how he is.Contepomi indicated that Mallia’s injury could be a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), although more tests are needed. England coach Steve Borthwick said he did not witness the incident and did not want that to be the focus.
Borthwick defended Curry, highlighting his impeccable character and respect. Maro Itoje also commented on the situation, noting that emotions are often intense after matches.
