Charlotte Caslick misses Women’s Rugby World Cup due to injury
Wallaroos star Charlotte Caslick has been ruled out of the Women’s Rugby World Cup campaign due to injury. The Olympic gold medalist in rugby sevens is in the process of recovering after ankle surgery. Initially, Caslick had been included in the team in the hope that she could return for the second group stage match of the Cup later this month. The 30-year-old athlete had paused her career in rugby sevens, dedicating herself full-time to the 15-player code this year, with the aim of strengthening the Wallaroos in their participation in the Cup.
Coach Jo Yapp explained that the decision was made to allow Caslick to continue with an accelerated recovery program, where she could be available as an injury replacement should a player be required later in the tournament. Yapp added that they are very happy that Manu’a can join the team for the World Cup. Caslick had played five test matches and was starting to settle in the centres, scoring with his first touch against New Zealand before suffering the injury at the end of that same match last month. Australia, whose best result is third place in seven World Cup appearances, will begin its campaign against Samoa on August 23.
