Doubts in the Rugby World Cup: Caslick and Palu, on the tightrope
Major Wallaroos figures could miss the Rugby World Cup. Charlotte Caslick, recently arrived from rugby 7s, underwent ankle surgery, while captain Siokapesi Palu is at risk of a similar situation.
Both players suffered injuries during Australia’s defeat to New Zealand in Wellington last Saturday. Now, time is running out for them, as the tournament will be held in England at the end of August.
Caslick, Olympic gold medalist and long-time captain in rugby 7, who joined the 15-a-side team this year, suffered a syndesmosis injury that required surgery. Playing in the center, she scored Australia’s first try in the first half.A Wallaroos spokesperson reported that the 30-year-old player will miss the two preparation matches against Wales, the first in Ballymore, Brisbane, on July 26. However, Caslick has not given up on her dream of participating in the World Cup, where Australia will debut against Samoa in Manchester on August 23.
It is believed that the sprinter could return for the second match against the United States, a week later, in York.
The flanker Palu was seen with an orthopedic boot after the match against the Black Ferns, after being injured while making a tackle to prevent a try.
The Wallaroos medical teams are “weighing options” as they seek more information about the severity of the injury.
