Bundee Aki, suspended: Ireland lose star for Six Nations start
Bundee Aki ha sido suspendido para los primeros tres partidos del Seis Naciones de Irlanda.
Irish center Bundee Aki will miss the first three Six Nations matches, including the crucial match against England, after being suspended for verbally insulting an official. The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) has sanctioned Aki with a six-match suspension, although two of them have been suspended. The incident that triggered this sanction occurred in the URC match between Connacht and Leinster last week. This suspension means that Aki, who has been a key piece in Ireland’s success in recent years, will not be able to participate in Connacht’s match against Zebre Parma this Saturday, nor in the Six Nations matches against France, England and Italy. The IRFU does not tolerate any form of disrespect towards match officials and does not approve of actions that do not meet the expected standards of players representing Irish rugby. The IRFU is investigating the matter internally and no further comment will be made at this time.

While two matches have been suspended for two years, and the committee has recognized Aki’s “full remorse for his actions,” the decision leaves Ireland without another key player for the tournament. The back Mack Hansen has been ruled out of the Six Nations due to a foot injury, while prop Andrew Porter and, crucially for Aki, center Robbie Henshaw, are also out of at least the opening match against France due to injuries.
