The Women’s Rugby World Cup urgently needed a match that would keep fans on the edge of their seats. After lopsided scores and little excitement, fans were clamoring for something to hook them.
Australia and the United States offered an electrifying encounter on Saturday, culminating in a 31-31 tie that not only entertained the public in York, but also intensified the competition in Group A heading into the final round. England is already qualified, but the clash between the hosts and Australia, along with the match between the United States and Samoa next week, promises strong emotions.
The draw has opened the way to more drama next week, as both teams still have chances to qualify for the quarter-finals. The United States needs a bonus-point win against Samoa, while Australia requires a bonus point (four tries or more, regardless of the result) against England.I feel like we lost.
Emily Chancellor, co-captain of Australia

The challenge now for both teams is to prepare for a final effort next week. The United States will play first, next Saturday, followed by Australia. If Saturday’s drama in York is repeated, another epic afternoon is coming.I think we gave them a great game, and I think that’s great to see. A lot of people probably haven’t even seen rugby, so they were able to come and see a game as entertaining as that. That’s what we want to do. We want to show them that it can be as entertaining as the men’s, and I think we did that tonight.
