The prominent England rugby player, Abby Dow, has announced her retirement from professional rugby.
Dow, who was a fundamental piece in the successful campaign of the Red Roses in this year’s World Cup, has decided to leave the sport to dedicate herself to her engineering career. At 28 years old, the player leaves an impressive legacy, with a record of 50 tries in 59 appearances.
Dow won seven Six Nations titles with England, including six Grand Slams, and two WXV1 victories. In addition, she started in the Red Roses’ victory over Canada in the World Cup final on September 27th.

Dow, with a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London, is also known for her skill in crochet.
The Red Roses coach, John Mitchell, highlighted Dow as a fierce competitor who elevates those around her, intelligent and inquisitive, attributes that have defined her throughout her 59 matches with the Red Roses. Mitchell also added that they are losing the best winger in world rugby at the peak of her career, but they respect her decision to move on. They wished her success in her next chapter.
