Sensitive Absence for the Czech Hockey Selection at the Winter Olympics
The Czech Republic will suffer a significant absence at the upcoming Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. Pavel Zacha, center for the Boston Bruins, will not recover in time from his injury, which represents a hard blow to the aspirations of the Czech team.
The news was confirmed this Saturday by the Czech team, which announced that Filip Chlapík, a player for Sparta Prague of the Czech league, will be Zacha’s replacement.
The change was approved by the International Olympic Committee. The Federation received the information directly from the Bruins’ general manager, Don Sweeney, on Friday night.
Zacha retired from the game that the Bruins won 6-3 against the Philadelphia Flyers on January 30. In the current season, the player has 15 goals and 22 assists in 54 games played.
The Czech Republic’s debut in the Olympic tournament will be against Canada on February 12.
