Cam York Secures His Future with the Flyers

Defenseman Cam York and the Philadelphia Flyers have agreed to a five-year contract worth $25.75 million, according to reports. The agreement ensures York’s presence on the team until the 2029-30 season, with an impact of $5.15 million on the salary cap. This figure could be advantageous, considering the projected increase in the NHL’s salary cap, which will rise from $88 million in the previous season to $113.5 million for 2027-28. The contract renewal of York, a 25-year-old defenseman with restricted free agent status, is a crucial step for the Flyers in their transition from rebuilding to fighting for the championship. York was the last player on the roster without a contract. York, selected 14th overall in the 2019 draft, has averaged almost 21 minutes of play per game in his professional career, all with Philadelphia. He has accumulated 77 points in 235 games with the Flyers, who have not qualified for the playoffs since 2020.
