WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tom Wilson expressed his dissatisfaction with the official scorers after the game in which the Washington Capitals defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 in the second game of the playoff series.

Did I only have two lockups? Those upstairs need to pay a little more attention.

Tom Wilson

Wilson, key in the victory, commented after the match that the team managed to tie the series at 1-1. One of his two blocks was crucial in the first period, preventing a clear scoring opportunity for Jordan Staal.

He does everything the right way. We feed off that. I think the whole rink fed off that. A big part of the reason we won tonight.

Logan Thompson

Despite the statistics, Wilson’s presence was felt throughout the defensive zone and also in the attack. He assisted on John Carlson’s goal in the third period, which proved to be the game-winner, and sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.

Obviously, he set the tone. He is our leader. He plays smart. He plays physical. He scored a great goal.

The team needed this performance after losing the first game in overtime. Wilson and his line, which included Connor McMichael and Pierre-Luc Dubois, were dominated by Carolina in the first encounter.

Coach Spencer Carbery highlighted Wilson’s improvement and the group’s leadership, inspiring the team to improve.

When we don’t perform to our standard, so to speak, it angers them. They don’t feel good about it. Then they take concrete steps to fix it and make sure it doesn’t look like that again.

Carbery also highlighted that Wilson was the first to seek solutions after the defeat in the first game.

It’s easy for some people to feel uncomfortable with defeat and move on the next day. It’s a very different thing to do something about it in your preparation and then go out and meet the challenge. He was there tonight, dragging the guys into the fight.

The third game of the series will be played in Raleigh on Saturday night.
