Colorado Avalanche Extends Winning Streak with Victory Over Blackhawks
Goalie Scott Wedgewood shone with 22 saves, achieving his first shutout of the season. The Colorado Avalanche continued their impressive streak, adding their ninth consecutive victory by defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 1-0.
Cale Makar scored the only goal of the game in the second period, solidifying the Avalanche’s lead in the NHL. This nine-game winning streak is the team’s longest since March 2024.
The Avalanche has shown remarkable consistency, with points in 13 consecutive games (11-0-2) since their only regulation loss on October 25th.
Spencer Knight, Blackhawks’ goalie, made 25 saves, but his team suffered their third consecutive loss after a six-game winning streak.
Wedgewood’s shutout was the second consecutive for the Avalanche, who were coming off a 3-0 victory over Nashville on Saturday.
Wedgewood, who has been a backup for much of his career, leads the NHL with 13 wins and a goals-against average of 2.23.
Makar leads NHL defensemen with nine goals and 29 points. Tristen Nielsen, in his fourth NHL game, assisted on Makar’s goal, earning his first point.
The Blackhawks dominated the first period, outshooting Colorado 11-2 and testing Wedgewood on several occasions. Wedgewood’s most notable save was against Ryan Green.
The Avalanche reacted in the second period, outshooting Chicago 19-1.
Makar scored with 1:39 remaining in the second period, taking advantage of a rebound. The goal came after Nielsen intercepted a pass from Knight and assisted Makar.
Chicago pressed at the end of the third period, but Wedgewood made several crucial saves, including a close-range stop against Frank Nazar with 43 seconds remaining.
