USA Prevails in the CHL-USA Prospects Challenge Tiebreaker
Lethbridge, Alberta – The U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP) emerged victorious in the CHL-USA Prospects Challenge, following a decisive overtime goal by Victor Plante during the tiebreaker against the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) on Wednesday night.
The match, which served as the series’ definition, saw Plante score his goal at 5:53 of overtime, securing the victory for the American team.
The USNTDP had won the first game of the series, played in Calgary on Tuesday night, with a score of 4-2. However, the CHL prospects responded with a comeback on Wednesday, overcoming a two-goal deficit to win 4-3, which forced a 20-minute sudden-death 3-on-3 period.
Plante, a 17-year-old from Hermantown, Minnesota, and who is scheduled to play at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, is the son of former NHL player Derek Plante.
In the second game, Xavier Villeneuve, Alessandro Di Iorio, Caleb Malhotra, and JP Hurlbert scored for the CHL, with Zachary Jonvanovski making 24 saves.
From the USNTDP, in addition to Plante, Jamie Glance and AJ Garcia also scored, while Luke Carrithers stopped 33 shots.
