Victor Plante Defines the CHL-USA Challenge with a Decisive Overtime Goal
Lethbridge, Alberta – The U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP) clinched victory at the CHL-USA Prospects Challenge, following an overtime goal by Victor Plante. The match, which served as a series tiebreaker, concluded with a score favorable to the American team.
After the USNTDP won the first game of the two-game series with a score of 4-2 in Calgary on Tuesday night, the CHL prospects came back from a two-goal deficit to win 4-3 on Wednesday, forcing 20 minutes of 3-on-3 sudden death.
Plante, a 17-year-old from Hermantown, Minnesota, is planning to play at the collegiate level for the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He is the son of former NHL player Derek Plante.
In the second game, Xavier Villeneuve, Alessandro Di Iorio, Caleb Malhotra, and JP Hurlbert scored for the CHL, while Zachary Jonvanovski made 24 saves.
From the USNTDP, the goals were scored by Plante, Jamie Glance, and AJ Garcia. Luke Carrithers, for his part, stopped 33 shots.
