NEW YORK – Rangers coach Mike Sullivan will not be present for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings due to personal matters, the team reported.
No further details were provided regarding the coach’s absence.
In Sullivan’s absence, assistants David Quinn and Joe Sacco will coach the team against the Red Wings. A team spokesperson indicated that Quinn would speak with reporters at the post-game press conference.
Sullivan is in his first season as the Rangers’ head coach. Quinn, for his part, was in that role for three seasons, from 2018 to 2021, before being fired.
Quinn trained for two years in San Jose, from 2022 to 2024, and worked on Sullivan’s team in Pittsburgh last season, before returning to New York with him. In addition, Quinn is also scheduled to be Sullivan’s assistant for the United States in the upcoming Olympic Games.
