Dallas Stars Send Matt Dumba to Pittsburgh Penguins

The Dallas Stars have finalized a trade involving defenseman Matt Dumba, sending him to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In return, the Stars will receive Vladislav Kolyachonok and a second-round pick in the 2028 draft.

Dumba, who signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract in free agency, failed to have the expected impact on the team. He was left out of the lineup in the 18 playoff games, where the Stars were eliminated in the Western Conference final for the third consecutive year.

During the regular season, Dumba, 30, recorded one goal and nine assists in 63 games. This goal total is the lowest for Dumba since his rookie season in 2013-14 with Minnesota, where he scored one goal in 13 games.

In his 12 seasons in the NHL, Dumba has accumulated 258 points, with 84 goals and 174 assists, in 737 games played. The Penguins will be his fourth team in the last three seasons, after spending the first ten years of his career with the Wild.

Vladislav Kolyachonok, for his part, played for the Penguins and Utah last season, scoring seven points (two goals) in 35 games. The 24-year-old player began his career in the 2021-22 season when the Utah franchise was in Arizona. In his career, Kolyachonok has 14 points (four goals) in 74 games.
