Sharks Correct Error in Celebratory Banner
The San Jose Sharks are in the process of rectifying an error on a recently installed banner at the SAP Center. The banner, which celebrates an achievement that the team did not actually obtain, has caused a stir among fans. With the start of the NHL season, the Sharks renovated the banners that adorn the stadium’s ceiling. The new designs feature a smaller team logo and a larger font. In addition, the team’s six division titles were condensed into a single banner, instead of the previous six individual ones. However, a new banner caught the attention of fans online and during Sunday’s preseason game against the Vegas Golden Knights. The banner celebrated the Sharks as winners of the Presidents’ Trophy in the 2015-16 season, an award given to the team with the best regular season record in the NHL.Sharks President Jonathan Becher stated on Sunday that it was a “printing error” that the team was already aware of. Becher stated that the Sharks “have already ordered a replacement” for the banner.
