SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Sharks have bolstered their goaltending with the acquisition of Laurent Brossoit in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks this Thursday.

In the agreement, the Sharks sent defensemen Ryan Ellis and Jake Furlong to the Blackhawks, along with a 2028 fourth-round pick.

In return, the Sharks received Brossoit, defenseman Nolan Allan, and a seventh-round pick in 2028.

Brossoit, who had agreed to a two-year, $6.6 million contract with Chicago on July 1, 2024, did not play for the Blackhawks.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper missed the entire last season due to a meniscus operation on his right knee. This year, he returned after off-season hip surgery and was playing in the minor leagues.

In the 2023-24 season, Brossoit played 23 games with Winnipeg, with a record of 15-5-2, a goals-against average of 2.00, and a save percentage of .927.

Brossoit, selected in the sixth round of the 2011 draft, has a record of 64-46-13 with a GAA of 2.64 and a save percentage of .911 in 140 career games. He has also played for Edmonton and Vegas.

Ellis, who turned 35 on Saturday, hasn’t played since November 2021. He has a cap hit of $6.25 million through the 2026-27 season, and this trade moves that amount to the Blackhawks.

Furlong, 21, has two assists in 12 games this season with the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 draft.

Allan, 22 years old, has scored two goals and four assists in 29 games this season with Rockford of the American Hockey League. He played 43 games with Chicago last season, finishing with one goal and seven assists.

Allan was selected by the Blackhawks with the 32nd pick in the 2021 draft.
