Sharks Apologize for On-Screen Message During Hispanic Heritage Celebration
SAN JOSE, California – The San Jose Sharks issued an apology following the display of a message on the video screen that generated controversy during the team’s Hispanic Heritage celebration. The message, displayed during the first intermission of Saturday’s game against Pittsburgh, read “SJ SHARKS FANS/LOVE ICE !!/GET ‘EM BOYZ !”. The post appeared to praise the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which sparked a swift reaction. The Sharks organization spoke out later during the game, deeply regretting the situation.In their statement, the Sharks added that they are actively investigating to determine the origin of the message. This incident occurred during the team’s ninth annual Hispanic Heritage celebration, known as “Los Tiburones Night”.“Sharks Sports & Entertainment deeply regrets that this message, which does not align with our organization’s values, was not detected during our standard review process,” they communicated.
