San Jose Sharks to Play Without a Captain Next Season
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Sharks will face the season without a designated captain, opting for a rotating system of five assistants. Coach Ryan Warsofsky announced this Wednesday that forward Tyler Toffoli will wear the “A” in all games. Macklin Celebrini and Barclay Goodrow will also alternate in home games, while Mario Ferraro and Alexander Wennberg will do so in away games.This will be the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Sharks will not have a designated captain. Joe Pavelski was named captain the following season, and Logan Couture succeeded him starting in the 2019-20 season. Couture was captain until last season, despite not having played. In April, Couture announced that he would no longer be able to play due to a chronic injury in his groin and pelvic area.Each of the players who will make up our leadership group for the 2025-26 season brings important skills and character to the locker room. These individuals embody what it means to be a Shark and the identity we want to have as a team. As a coaching staff, we are excited to have each of these players in a leadership role and to serve as an example for the rest of the group.
