Josh Norris, Sabres center, out indefinitely due to injury

Buffalo Sabres center Josh Norris will be out indefinitely due to an upper-body injury, according to coach Lindy Ruff announced on Saturday.

Ruff indicated that Norris will be out for “a significant period of time” when updating the situation before the Sabres’ game in Boston. The injury occurred two days after the center was injured in the 4-0 loss to the New York Rangers in the season opener.

Ruff commented that the injury is new, but similar to an oblique tear that prevented Norris from playing the last month of last season.

Norris was injured with about five minutes left in the game, falling forward and collapsing on the ice after losing a face-off against Mika Zibanejad in front of the Sabres’ bench.

This is the latest setback for 26-year-old Norris, who underwent three operations to correct a shoulder problem dating back to his college days at Michigan. Furthermore, it represents a harsh blow for the Sabres, who acquired Norris in a trade that sent center Dylan Cozens and defenseman Dennis Gilbert to Ottawa in March.

Norris has surpassed 20 goals on three occasions, including 35 in the 2021-22 season. However, due to injuries, he has yet to complete a full season in his five-year career.
