Florida Panthers to Begin Season with Eyes on a Three-Peat

The Florida Panthers, the current NHL champions, are preparing to raise their second consecutive Stanley Cup banner. This event will mark the start of the regular season, where they will seek to consolidate their dominance in the league.

The first encounter of the season will be against the Chicago Blackhawks. The game is scheduled for October 7 at 5 p.m. EDT, kicking off an opening day with three exciting matchups.

The Panthers, after defeating Edmonton in the final, have their sights set on a historic milestone: becoming the first team to achieve a three-peat since the New York Islanders dynasty between 1980 and 1983.

The inaugural day on October 7th will also include the match between the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins at 8 p.m. In addition, the Colorado Avalanche will visit the Los Angeles Kings at 10:30 p.m. EDT.

The rest of the season’s calendar will be announced on Wednesday.

This will be the last regular season with 82 games before moving to 84 in the 2026-27 season. This change is part of an extended collective bargaining agreement ratified by the league and the Players Association.

The 2025-26 season calendar will include a break for players to participate in the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, marking the NHL’s return to this event for the first time since 2014.
