WASHINGTON – Alex Ovechkin continued his impressive NHL career by scoring his 903rd goal, contributing to the Washington Capitals’ 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night.
Ovechkin also surpassed Gordie Howe, setting a new record in NHL history for the most regular season goals scored at a single venue, adding his 442nd goal at Capital One Arena.
Matt Roy also made an appearance on the scoreboard for the Capitals, who managed to break a two-game losing streak, allowing them to climb positions in the standings.
For their part, Anze Kopitar scored the only goal for the Kings, who were coming off a four-game winning streak. This loss represents only their second on the road so far this season.
The game opened with Roy, who took advantage of an opportunity in front of the goal to deflect a shot by Aliaksei Protas, beating Darcy Kuemper and scoring his first goal in 25 games, going back to the previous season.
In the second period, Ovechkin demonstrated his skill by approaching the goal and capitalizing on a pass from Connor McMichael. With this goal, Ovechkin adds scores in two consecutive games and three in the last four.
Kopitar brought Los Angeles closer with his third goal of the season, taking advantage of a pass from Corey Perry during a power play. Washington has received power play goals in three consecutive games and five of the last six.
Despite the Kings’ efforts, they couldn’t overcome Charlie Lindgren, who stopped 30 of 31 shots, securing his second win of the season after losing his previous four starts.
Kuemper, for his part, made 23 saves from 25 shots in the loss.
