The Edmonton Oilers have secured the continuity of forward Trent Frederic with an eight-year contract extension for $30.8 million, as announced by the team on Friday. This agreement comes just four days after Frederic became an unrestricted free agent.

Frederic arrived to the Oilers in a three-way trade on March 4, which also involved the New Jersey Devils. Frederic, 27, returned from a sprained ankle and played one game with Edmonton this season before the playoffs. In 57 games with Boston during the 2024-25 season, he recorded 15 points, with eight goals and seven assists, and a -14 rating. In the 2023-24 season, Frederic reached career highs with 18 goals, 22 assists, and 40 points, playing in all 82 games. Since being selected by the Bruins with the 29th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, Frederic has accumulated 109 points, with 55 goals and 54 assists, and an average of +18 in 338 career games.
