Stanley Cup MVP Race: McDavid Leads the List

The 2025 Stanley Cup Finals are about to crown their champion, with the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers competing for the coveted trophy. At stake is the coveted Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the NHL playoffs.

McDavid won the Conn Smythe last season, even though the Oilers lost.

McDavid, who already won the Conn Smythe last season, leads the MVP race with 26 points (six goals and 20 assists) in 16 games. His stellar performance, including nine points in the series against the Stars, has solidified him as the favorite.

A survey among national and local sports journalists reveals that McDavid is the clear favorite, with 71% of the votes placing him in first place.

The other main contenders are Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and team captain Aleksander Barkov.

Bobrovsky has demonstrated exceptional performance with a save percentage of .912 and a goals-against average of 2.11 in the playoffs. Barkov, for his part, has led the Panthers with 17 points in 17 games, including six goals.

Other notable players include Sam Bennett of the Panthers and Leon Draisaitl of the Oilers, who have also shown remarkable performance.

Draisaitl is one point behind McDavid, with 25 points in 16 games, and has scored one more goal than McDavid in the playoffs. Bennett leads the playoffs with 10 goals and has been a physical force for the Panthers in every series.

The Conn Smythe Trophy winner is based on a player’s performance throughout the entire postseason, not just in the final round. The award is voted on by a panel of 18 members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.

The competition for the Stanley Cup MVP promises to be exciting, with McDavid leading the charge and other key players ready to challenge him.
