NHL Moves: Lightning and Kraken in Action

In a day of significant movements within the NHL, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Seattle Kraken have made important decisions regarding their rosters. These moves anticipate changes in the configuration of both teams for the upcoming season. The Tampa Bay Lightning have placed forward Conor Sheary on unconditional waivers with the aim of terminating his contract. Sheary, a veteran with ten years of experience in the league, had limited participation with the Lightning, playing only five games. Much of the previous season was spent in the minor leagues due to salary restrictions of the team. Sheary, 33, had one year remaining on his three-year contract, with a salary of $2 million for next season. The player has been a Stanley Cup champion twice, in 2016 and 2017, with Pittsburgh. He arrived in Tampa Bay as a free agent two years ago, where he accumulated four goals and 15 points in 62 games. During his career, Sheary also played for Buffalo and Washington, recording 124 goals and 267 points in 593 games. If Sheary is not claimed, he will become an unrestricted free agent, allowing him to negotiate with any team when the signing period opens on Tuesday. On the other hand, the Seattle Kraken have also taken action. The team placed forward Joe Veleno on unconditional waivers to terminate the last year of his contract, in which he was to earn $2.275 million. Veleno, with five seasons of experience in the NHL, was acquired by Seattle last week in a trade that sent Andre Burakovsky to Chicago. The 25-year-old player spent more than four seasons in Detroit, where he accumulated 38 goals and 81 points in 306 games.
