Kaapo Kakko Secures His Future with the Seattle Kraken
Forward Kaapo Kakko has signed a three-year contract with the Seattle Kraken, the team announced on Tuesday. The deal has an average annual value of $4.525 million. The Kraken acquired Kakko, 24, on December 18th of last year, coming from the New York Rangers. The trade involved defenseman Will Borgen, a 2025 third-round pick, and a 2025 sixth-round pick. Kakko, originally from Finland, was the second overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. Last season, Kakko achieved his personal best with 44 points, including 14 goals and 30 assists in 79 games played between the Rangers and the Kraken. His 30 assists also represented a personal record.With the Kraken, Kakko scored 10 goals and 20 assists in 49 games. In addition, he tied his personal record for points in a game, recording three assists in the 4-2 victory against the Los Angeles Kings on January 18. Kakko ranked second in points, third in assists and power-play goals, and sixth in goals for Seattle.Getting a contract with Kaapo was a priority this summer.
