Corey Perry Activated by the Kings; Kopitar to Injured Reserve
The Los Angeles Kings have activated forward Corey Perry from the injured list, marking the start of his 21st season in the NHL.
In addition, the Kings have placed captain Anze Kopitar on the injured list, after a foot injury interrupted his 20th season in the NHL.
Perry, 40 years old, will be in the lineup when the Kings visit the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.
Perry signed with the Kings as a free agent last summer, but injured his knee while skating before the start of training camp in September. He had surgery and managed to return before the team’s initial prognosis of six to eight weeks of recovery.
Perry spent his first 14 seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, before moving to Dallas, Montreal, Tampa Bay, Chicago and Edmonton. He has played in the Stanley Cup Final in five of the last six seasons, but lost each time.
In his career, Perry has accumulated 448 goals and 487 assists.
Kopitar is under weekly evaluation after being shot in the foot during a game against Minnesota earlier this month. The Slovenian forward announced last month that he will retire at the end of the season.
The Kings have had a difficult start, with a record of 1-3-2 and a streak of four consecutive losses, as they prepare to face the Blues in the first stop of a five-game road trip.
