Devils’ Jack Hughes Undergoes Surgery for Finger Injury

New Jersey Devils star Jack Hughes successfully underwent surgery on Saturday due to a finger injury, the team reported. The recovery time is estimated to be eight weeks, although a reevaluation will be carried out in six weeks. Sources close to the team indicate that Hughes suffered the hand injury during an “unusual accident” when he cut himself on glass at a team dinner on Thursday. The operation was performed by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Hughes, 24, had started the season exceptionally for the Devils, who are at the top of the Metropolitan Division with a record of 12-4-1 before Friday. The American player has achieved 10 goals and 20 points in his first 17 games. This injury poses an interesting scenario for Team USA ahead of the 2026 Olympics in Milan. Hughes’ brother, Quinn, has already been selected for the team, and the Devils star was expected to be a strong candidate to be part of the roster. Federations must submit their lists before December 31st. The estimated timeframe for Hughes’ return to competition is around the second week of January, while the men’s ice hockey tournament of the Olympic Games will begin on February 11th. The Olympic squads consist of 25 players, which is two more places than the teams had in the Four Nations.
