Adrian Kempe Secures His Future with the Kings
The Los Angeles Kings have finalized the signing of a new contract with winger Adrian Kempe, ensuring his stay with the team for eight years.
The agreement, announced this Monday, is worth $10.625 million annually.
For the Kings, renewing Kempe was a priority, especially with the imminent retirement of captain Anze Kopitar at the end of the season.
Negotiations extended for several months, and according to sources close to the matter, Kempe had accepted a slightly lower salary, demonstrating his desire to continue in Los Angeles and his confidence in the team’s chances of aspiring to the Stanley Cup.
The contract will extend Kempe’s connection until the 2033-34 season.
The 29-year-old Swedish player has spent his entire decade-long career with the Kings, since being selected in the first round of the 2014 draft.
Kempe, who has led the Kings’ scoring chart in the last two seasons, has six goals and 19 points in the 19 games played this season.
