Kaapo Kakko Suffers Injury and Will Be Out of Action with the Kraken
Seattle Kraken forward Kaapo Kakko suffered a hand fracture during a preseason game and will be out for approximately six weeks, the team announced on Saturday.
Kakko, 24, was injured on Wednesday against the Edmonton Oilers. Oilers prospect defenseman Beau Akey hit Kakko with his stick, resulting in the player leaving the game and not returning.
It is very likely that Kakko will miss Seattle’s season opener on October 9 against the Anaheim Ducks, as well as the first few weeks of games.
Kakko, selected at number 2 in the 2019 NHL draft, signed a three-year contract with the Kraken in July, with an average annual salary of $4.525 million.
The player, originally from Turku, Finland, was acquired from the New York Rangers in December 2024 and achieved a career-high of 44 points, with 14 goals and 30 assists in 79 games, during his time with the Rangers and the Kraken last season. His 30 assists were also a personal best.
