NFL legends Colin Kaepernick and Marshawn Lynch join forces to promote diversity and inclusion in hockey.

Both athletes will partner with members of the Hockey Diversity Alliance (HDA) to organize a street hockey tournament for marginalized youth in Toronto.

The event, which will be held on August 16, seeks to offer an accessible and free sporting experience for 250 young people.

One step further in inclusion

The HDA, composed of current and retired NHL players of color, aims to eradicate racism in hockey and make it more inclusive. They seek to make the sport more accessible to young people who may not have the resources to participate.

This tournament is an extension of the work that the HDA already does, offering sports and educational programs throughout the year for 1,500 young people registered in the Toronto area.

The event is the world’s largest BIPOC youth street hockey tournament.

Among the members of the HDA are Calgary forward Nazem Kadri and Pittsburgh defenseman Matt Dumba. Akim Aliu, a former minor league player, chairs the alliance.
