FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn required stitches in his nose and will miss the team’s upcoming games after taking a hit to the face against the ice during the last game.
Coach Glen Gulutzan reported that Benn was being evaluated on Monday, a day after the fall resulting from contact with a Montreal player at the start of the third period in the Stars’ 4-3 overtime loss. Benn was bleeding as he was helped off the ice and headed to the locker room, and did not return to the game.
The Stars, who are on a five-game losing streak, will play their next six games away from home.
Gulutzan indicated that he does not expect to have Benn for the first part of that tour, which includes games in Carolina on Tuesday and in Washington the next day. However, the coach mentioned that the captain could join the team for the stage on the West Coast, which begins on Saturday in San Jose.
Benn, 36 years old and in his seventeenth season in the NHL, all with the Stars, has seven goals and seven assists in 23 games this season. Previously, he missed the first 19 games due to a lung injury suffered during the preseason.
