Devils’ Jack Hughes Recovering From Finger Surgery
The New Jersey Devils’ star player, Jack Hughes, underwent successful surgery on his finger on Saturday, according to the team’s announcement. The estimated recovery time is eight weeks, although he will be reevaluated in six weeks.
Sources indicate that Hughes suffered the hand injury during an “unusual accident” at a team dinner on Thursday, where he cut himself with glass. Hughes’ procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
The 24-year-old player had a spectacular start for the New Jersey, who are at the top of the Metropolitan Division with a record of 12-4-1 entering Friday. The American star has accumulated 10 goals and 20 points in his first 17 games.
This injury poses an interesting challenge for Team USA ahead of the 2026 Olympics in Milan. Hughes’ brother, Quinn, has already been selected for the team, and the Devils star was expected to be a strong candidate for the roster. Federations must submit their rosters before December 31st. The expected date for Hughes’ return to competition is around the second week of January. The men’s ice hockey tournament at the Olympics will begin on February 11th.
The Olympic lists have 25 players, which is significantly more than the teams that participated in the Four Nations.
