Devils’ Jack Hughes Undergoes Surgery for Finger Injury
The New Jersey Devils’ star player, Jack Hughes, successfully underwent surgery on his finger on Saturday, according to the team’s announcement. The estimated recovery time is eight weeks, although he will be reevaluated in six.
Sources report that Hughes suffered the hand injury in a “strange accident” after cutting himself with glass at a team dinner on Thursday.
The surgical intervention was performed by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
The 24-year-old player had had an impressive start to the season for New Jersey, which was at the top of the Metropolitan Division with a 12-4-1 record before Friday. The American star accumulated 10 goals and 20 points in his first 17 games.
This injury poses an interesting dilemma for Team USA ahead of the 2026 Olympics in Milan. Hughes’ brother, Quinn, has already been included in the team, while the Devils star was expected to be a strong candidate for the roster. Federations must submit the lists before December 31st. Hughes’ return to activity is estimated around the second week of January, while the men’s Olympic ice hockey tournament begins on February 11th.
Olympic teams are made up of 25 players, two more than the teams had in the Four Nations.
