Jonathan Drouin Suspended for One Game After Aggression

New York Islanders winger Jonathan Drouin has been suspended for one game due to an action in Thursday night’s game. The player was penalized for elbowing Connor Dewar of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the head.

The NHL’s Player Safety Department announced the suspension on Friday, after reviewing the play in a disciplinary hearing.

Drouin, 30, received a major penalty of more than five minutes and was ejected with a rough play penalty for the aggression in a post-whistle scrum, with 15 seconds left in the game.

This is the first suspension in Drouin’s career in the league. He will miss the Islanders’ home opener on Saturday night against Washington. In addition, he will lose $20,833 of his salary, money that will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
