Concern in Carolina: Slavin doubtful for the tour
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes are preparing for an extensive road trip, and uncertainty surrounds the situation of defenseman Jaccob Slavin. Slavin was absent for much of the third period and all of overtime in Saturday night’s 4-3 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers.Carolina will begin a six-game road trip on Tuesday night in San Jose, which means the Hurricanes will not play at home for more than two weeks. Slavin, 31, played less than 4 and a half minutes after the second period of Saturday night’s game. In the first game of the season, where Carolina defeated New Jersey 6-3 on Thursday night, he was on the ice for more than 20 minutes. Slavin, who did not participate in the preseason, has played in more than 75 regular season games in each of the last four seasons. Earlier in his career, he had three consecutive seasons where he played all 82 regular season games. The player has been awarded the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy twice, which recognizes the most gentlemanly player in the NHL. He signed an eight-year contract in the summer of 2024. The Hurricanes defeated Philadelphia thanks to Seth Jarvis’ goal with 16.7 seconds remaining in overtime.“They are evaluating it,” commented coach Rod Brind’Amour. “We will have more information about his condition on Monday. He was limping a bit.”
