Grzelcyk signs with Blackhawks: Defenseman signs 1-year, $1 million contract

CHICAGO – Defenseman Matt Grzelcyk has agreed to terms with the Chicago Blackhawks, signing a one-year contract for one million dollars.

The official announcement was made by the team on Sunday. Grzelcyk was at the Blackhawks’ training camp under a personal tryout agreement.

The Blackhawks will face the Florida Panthers in their season opener on Tuesday.

Grzelcyk, 31, scored a goal and a personal best of 39 assists in 82 games with Pittsburgh last season. He also led the team with 101 blocked shots, setting a new career high.

The player, originally from Massachusetts, was selected by Boston in the third round of the NHL draft in 2012. During eight seasons with the Bruins, he accumulated 25 goals and 110 assists in 445 games.
