CHICAGO – Defenseman Matt Grzelcyk has agreed to terms with the Chicago Blackhawks, signing a one-year contract for one million dollars.
The official announcement was made on Sunday. Grzelcyk had been at the team’s training camp under a personal tryout agreement.
The Blackhawks will face the Florida Panthers in their season opener on Tuesday.
In the previous season, 31-year-old player Grzelcyk recorded one goal and 39 assists (his personal best) in 82 games with Pittsburgh. In addition, he led the team with 101 blocked shots, also setting a personal record.
Grzelcyk, a Massachusetts native, was drafted by Boston in the third round of the 2012 NHL draft. Over eight seasons with the Bruins, he amassed 25 goals and 110 assists in 445 games.
