New Name for the Minnesota Wild’s Home
The Xcel Energy Center, home to the NHL’s Minnesota Wild ice hockey team and the PWHL’s Minnesota Frost, will change its name. The venue operators announced the modification this Monday. Starting September 3, the 18,000-seat arena, located in downtown Saint Paul, will be known as Grand Casino Arena.
Leipold added: “The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe has been a strong supporter and investor in this city. We are thrilled with their partnership and support for the arena.” Xcel Energy had held the naming rights since the building’s opening in the year 2000.“Grand Casino Arena will serve as the anchor of a dynamic entertainment district that will transform downtown Saint Paul,” stated Craig Leipold, majority owner and lead investor in Minnesota Sports & Entertainment.
