Blackhawks Captain Nick Foligno Out with Injury

Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno will be out of action for four weeks due to a hand injury sustained on Saturday during his team’s 3-2 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to coach Jeff Blashill. Foligno suffered the injury with 90 seconds left in the second period. The incident occurred when he was near the Blackhawks’ defensive zone and a shot by Jake McCabe deflected the puck, hitting Foligno’s hand. Foligno, visibly affected, went to the bench and did not return for the third period. Before leaving the game, he accumulated three shots on goal and a playing time of 10:41. The absence of Foligno, who has recorded six points in 15 games, represents a significant loss for the Blackhawks. The player was playing as the fourth-line center, forming part of a combination with Sam Lafferty and Landon Slaggert. This injury adds to that of Jason Dickinson, who is already on the injured list.

After finishing last season with one of the lowest scores in the NHL, the Blackhawks (9-5-4) have become one of the surprises of the regular season. With their victory against the Maple Leafs, the team is in third place in the Central Division and leads the Vegas Golden Knights and Seattle Kraken by one point in the race for the wild card of the Western Conference.
