In a moving ceremony, the Flyers paid tribute to Bernie Parent, a hockey legend, following his recent passing at the age of 80. The event, which spanned the entire weekend, commemorated the life and legacy of the iconic goaltender, a key figure in the franchise’s history.
A Tribute to the “Number 1”
As part of the tribute, the Flyers presented a replica of Parent’s goalie mask, a recognized symbol of his golden era. This mask, similar to the one Parent used in the 1970s, evokes memories of the “Broad Street Bullies” and the team’s moments of glory. The announcement by announcer Lou Nolan resonated in the stadium, recalling Parent’s importance to the organization. His banner with the number 1, retired in his honor, rises in the pavilion, alongside the banners of the Stanley Cup championships, a testament to his impact.Forever our number 1
Lou Nolan

The Legacy of a Champion
Parent was fundamental in obtaining the Stanley Cup in 1974 and 1975, being the first NHL expansion team to achieve the championship. His performances in goal earned him recognition as one of the best players in the league. In the game against the New Jersey Devils, a photo of Parent smiling with his Stanley Cup rings was displayed. Parent’s dedication to the team and the community was remembered, especially his work as an ambassador for the Ed Snider Youth Hockey and Education program. In honor of his legacy, the creation of the “Bernie Parent Goaltender Development Program” was announced, focused on preparing young talents on and off the ice. Flyers Charities made a donation of $50,000, matched by Snider’s children. Parent’s legacy will endure in the memory of fans and in the history of hockey. We have two Stanley Cups thanks to Bernie.
