Marc-Andre Fleury Returns to Pittsburgh for an Exhibition Game

The legendary goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who announced his official retirement last spring after a 21-year NHL career, has signed a professional tryout contract with the Penguins. Fleury, 40 years old, will join the team in the exhibition game against Columbus on September 27. Fleury was the Penguins’ first overall pick in the 2003 NHL draft. He spent the first 13 seasons of his career in Pittsburgh, where he helped Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang win three Stanley Cups.

“Marc means a lot to our team, our fans, and the city of Pittsburgh, for the person he is and the example he has set,” stated Pittsburgh general manager Kyle Dubas.

Fleury, affectionately known as “Flower”, is a much-loved figure by his teammates and fans. Currently, he ranks second in NHL history in wins (575) and won the Vezina Trophy in 2021, while playing for Vegas. His impact on Pittsburgh is undeniable, holding almost all of the goaltending records in Penguins history, including games played (691), wins (375), and shutouts (44).
