The Calgary Flames have secured the continuity of their coach, Ryan Huska, extending his contract for two more years, as announced by the team this Thursday. Huska, who was appointed in June 2023, is about to begin his third season at the helm of the Flames. During last season, the team recorded a 41-27-14 record, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive year, after losing a tiebreaker against the St. Louis Blues. The new contractual agreement extends until the 2027-28 season.

“He has done an excellent job of creating a strong culture in our locker room and helping our team move in the right direction. His communication, work ethic, and commitment to the development of our players have been outstanding. We believe in his vision and are confident that he is the right coach to lead us into the future,” said General Manager Craig Conroy.

Huska, 50, has been associated with the Flames organization since the 2014-15 season, and joined the NHL team as an assistant in 2018. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this team and build on the foundation we have started. I believe in this group, in its character, talent and potential. I am excited about the direction we are taking,” Huska expressed. Before joining the Flames, Huska was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks. He began his coaching career in 2002, as an assistant with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League, and then became the club’s coach in 2007. Since taking over as the Flames’ 24th head coach, his record is 79-66-19.
