Ryan Huska extends his contract with the Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames have secured the continuity of their coach, Ryan Huska, with a two-year contract extension, as announced by the team this Thursday. Huska, who took over the position in June 2023, is preparing for his third season at the helm of the team. Last season, the Flames recorded a 41-27-14 record, but failed to qualify for the playoffs for the third consecutive year, losing the tiebreaker to the St. Louis Blues. The new contractual agreement will extend until the 2027-28 season.Huska, 50, has been with the Flames organization since 2014-15, joining the NHL team as an assistant in 2018.“He has done an excellent job of creating a strong culture in our locker room and helping our team move in the right direction. His communication, work ethic, and commitment to the development of our players have been outstanding. We trust his vision and are confident that he is the right coach to lead us,” said General Manager Craig Conroy in a statement.

Previously selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the draft, Huska began his coaching career in 2002 as an assistant with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League, and later became the team’s coach in 2007. Since taking over as the 24th head coach of the Flames, his record is 79-66-19.“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this team and building on the foundation we have started. I believe in this group, in their character, talent, and potential. I am excited about the direction we are taking,” Huska said in a statement.
