Finland Surprises Canada in Thrilling Ice Hockey Duel

In a day full of emotion at the Ice Hockey World Championship, Finland defeated Canada, one of the favorites for the title, with a score of 2-1 in a penalty shootout. This result represents the first defeat for Canada in the tournament.

Patrik Puistola and Eeli Tolvanen scored for Finland in the penalty shootout, while Kent Johnson did so for Canada.

Canada, despite the defeat, dominated in shots on goal, surpassing Finland with a score of 38-22. The Canadians had had an impressive offense in their previous five games, scoring 28 goals and allowing only two.

Canada is currently in second place in Group A, two points behind the leader, Sweden. Both teams will face each other on Tuesday in their last group stage match, although they have already qualified for the quarter-finals.

Finland, for its part, is in third place and will play against Slovakia on Tuesday.

Ryan O’Reilly put Canada ahead with a goal in the second period, taking advantage of a counterattack. The match was characterized by the physical intensity of both teams.

Puistola tied the score in the third period, controlling the puck in the air with his stick and scoring from close range.

Czech Republic Keeps Perfect Pace with Commanding Victory

In Herning, Denmark, the Czech Republic, the current champion, continued its undefeated streak by defeating Germany 5-0.

This sixth consecutive victory puts the Czechs at the top of Group B, one point ahead of Switzerland and three ahead of the United States, which occupies third place.

The Czech Republic will close the group stage by facing the United States on Tuesday.

Germany and Denmark will also face each other on Tuesday, in a crucial match to define the fourth team in the group that will advance to the quarterfinals.

Jakub Flek scored two goals for the Czech Republic, while David Pastrnak scored one goal and assisted on another. Jakub Lauko also contributed a shorthanded goal.

Daniel Vladar kept a clean sheet for the Czechs, making 19 saves.

Slovenia and Norway Secure Permanence

In Stockholm, Slovenia, a team debuting in the tournament, defeated France 3-1, securing their place in the championship and relegating France.

In Herning, Norway defeated Hungary by 1-0, also guaranteeing their permanence.
